I began making hand-cut collages around 2019. I’ve always loved art, and it seemed like a great way to view art and eventually repurpose it. I would find cool art and picture books at yard sales and thrift stores, cutting out my favorite pieces and later deciding how to use them. Many of my early pieces were done over old vinyl album covers. I would find pictures and art that matched the scene, and cover the band name and album titles discreetly. In fact I consider the whole process similar to ‘sampling’ music. I listen to a lot of ‘plunderphonics’, a micro-genre where artists sample popular or obscure music, making new songs out of old. I just find images that I like, and put them in a new setting. It seems like a way to pay homage to artists I like, and a way to make their pieces live on in a new way.
